Moving home is a big life change to go through, which is why some people find the experience to be somewhat stress inducing. In fact, you may even face anxiety about moving, due to everything that is involved in having to uproot your lifestyle and start again. However, moving home is also an exciting opportunity to start new beginnings, which is why it is important to find ways to deal with the stressful parts of making the change, in order to enjoy all of the good things. So, if you’re planning on moving home in the near future, here are five things that you should remember to do.

Start packing
It can be tempting to put off packing up your home until the very last minute, especially as there are going to be items that you’ll need to have access until you leave. However, in order to reduce the amount of stress that you’ll feel the closer moving day gets, it is better to start packing up some items around the house as early as possible. Plus, if you’re planning on having an open day, or are going to take pictures of the property to promote the sale, then the less cluttered the household is, the better the appeal will be.

Changing addresses
It is important to remember to inform everyone of your change of address, both for professional accounts and relationships, and personal. For a start, it is wise to let your bank know about the move so that they can update their records. You will also need to inform your utility providers of your moving date, so you won’t be charged for services that you aren’t using.

Take meter readings
As well as letting your utility companies know about the move, you will also need to take final meter readings of your water, gas and electricity usage, so that you can ensure that you don’t get incorrectly charged for usage after you leave. Luckily, these readings shouldn’t be taken until the very moment that you leave the property, so you won’t have to worry about that until the last minute.

Clean the house
It is common courtesy to make sure that the house that you are moving out of is in a good condition for the new owners, so you might want to consider getting the house cleaned. You may even find that the new owners request this as a condition in the terms of sale. If you’re leaving a rental property, then you may want to hire Keen Clean to make sure that the property is in as good a condition as possible in order to get most of your security deposit back from the landlord.

Ask for help
Moving home is never easy, and the process can often be stressful, especially if you have children to look after during the move. Therefore, you might want to consider asking for help from friends and family members who can support you in the transition, whether that means them helping you move furniture in, or just having someone there who can look after the children for you.
