Our Jubilee & Half Term Plans
Another term passes by. Now Lil H is in reception I look forward to the holidays. When he was in pre-school and in fairness Diva G was still a baby, I used to see the holidays as an endurance test with all our favourite haunts filling up with the school age population. Now holidays are a pleasure, no early morning get out the house by 8:30am rush, time to catch up with friends at other schools and time to load the car and embark on some adventures.
This half term has a special National celebration with the Diamond Jubilee. I just about remember the Silver Jubilee in 1977, I was three (you can do the maths!) My brother had just been born on 25th May 1977 so I was a week into being a big sister and a street party with fun, frolics and flags marked the occasion. I hope my children will have memories of this Diamond Jubilee as fond as I look back at the, now faded, photographs. That’s what I am hoping to create for them anyway, although my photo’s will be digital so won’t fade!
Lil H has an all day long party at school for the Jubilee on Friday 1st June, we are then picking him up and heading South straight from school to great friends in Buckinghamshire. We will mark our arrival with gin as I am sure The Queen will be too – cheers your Majesty! Saturday morning we are up and out, taking the train into central London and then tube to Hyde Park. My Northern offspring will find this mega exciting. We’re heading to Hyde Park for the Sainsbury’s family festival
It’s my first festival with the children so I am already waking up at night fretting about losing them! I am slightly nervous about losing them with such mega crowds expected, there are bracelets, I was very tempted by these beautiful silver stamped bracelets by Chambers & Beau, the children both have bracelets with their names on, gorgeous gifts for their naming day.
There are more budget options such as slap bands and other similar options, no where near as gorgeous mind.
But I think I am going to make sure we have talked a lot about what to do should they get lost before and when we get there, attach my mobile number in a keyring to their waist bands and also write my mobile number in indelible ink on their arms! All tips welcome for child safety at festivals and such events.
Saturday will be a long day so Sunday will be a s l o w day I predict a BBQ and beverages. Then we have some local Jubilee celebrations to join in with on Monday. Tuesday the children and I will wave farewell to Mr L and embark on trip to London partially inspired by Topsy and Tim Visit London as we start with Kew Gardens meeting up with some of our London pals and spending the rest of the week chill-axing with great old friends.
Whenever the weather forecast is best on the Wednesday or Thursday we are going to head to Peppa Pig Land, I’ve heard great things about it and it would be fair to say Peppa Pig is big news right now in Diva G’s life in TV, DVD and book format! To meet the real PP will be the making of dreams for my little girl. We will head back home on Friday. All in all it is stacking up to be a rather good half term.
So that’s what we’ve got planned, what are you up? Are you going to the festival at Hyde Park too on the Saturday? Any tips for children at festivals? Or at Kew Gardens or for Peppa Pig Land?
Whatever you’re doing I hope its a good one! Claire x

Oh my, what gorgeous bracelets! And I *love* the keyring with your mobile number in idea – so simple and so brilliant! I have had the misfortune of losing Josh, and it’s not something I would wish on my worst enemy. We talked for a long time about the importance of staying close, especially in crowded places, but it’s so easy to lose sight of them for a second, and that’s really all it takes.
We’re off to Dorset for half term and like you, I now love school holidays… we have Longleat on our plans and Abbotsbury, as well as trips to the beach and fossil hunting. I really hope the weather stays this nice
Have a great half term x

I love the bracelets – what a fabulous idea!!
We are off to Hyde Park for the Sainsbury’s Family Fun Festival on Saturday and then visiting relatives in Kent for a couple of days.
Peppa Pig World is fab but my tip is make the most of the rest of the park too. PPW is quietest first thing in the morning and then best avoided until about 3.30-4pm when everyone suddenly realises that they havent seen the rest of the park.
We did every ride twice between 4 and 5 and during the daytime you are looking at queuing for at least an hour!!
